Treffender kann ein Restaurantname kaum sein:
Im “Wein am Rhein” gibt es nämlich von gutem Wein immer reichlich und zwar in unmittelbarer Rheinnähe, unweit des Kölner Doms. Meine Frau hatte uns die Teilnahme zum “Sommelier-Battle” am 18. September geschenkt, ein wirkliches großartiges Präsent! Zwei Top-Sommeliers, nämlich Noreen Rudolph vom “Kölner Weinkeller” und Melanie Panitzke vom “Wein am Rhein”, lieferten sich einen höchst zivilisierten Schlagabtausch über Wein! Während Noreen Deutschland vertrat, hat sich Melanie an Österreich gewagt – bravourös haben es beide getan! Und mit wirklichen Spitzentropfen war das auch fast kein Wunder, denn die inspirierten beide. Dazu gab es ein super Pairing mit der richtigen Begleitung: Exzellentes Essen von rosa Kaninchenfilet über Kalbsbäckchen bis zur Quittentarte.
Alles in schicker Einrichtung (ein moderner Wandteppich mit Weinbergmotiv!) und kölscher Atmosphäre. Und vor allem mit wunderbar freundlichen Menschen, die allesamt Ihre Leidenschaft für Esskultur ungezügelt fröhnen konnten! Es war ein Riesenspass, die Unterhaltungen mit Gleichgesinnten waren einfach ein Genuß! Ach, und 600,-€ haben wir noch für die aktuelle Flüchtlingsthematik an Spenden sammeln können, auch ganz fein, oder nicht?!?
Ich geh jetzt mal ins Namedropping unseres “Battles”, auch wenn einige Nichtkenner vermutlich wenig damit anfangen können.

Auch die süssen Weine gebühren der Bemerkung, da hat mich der Ürziger Würzgarten besonders begeistert. Neben den lustigen Annekdoten von Noreen darüber, wie “traditionell-urig” dieses Gut geführt wird (ein Blick aufs Etikett verrät einiges) ist er auch noch ziemlich preiswert zu haben (ca. 10-13€ für eine 2003er Auslese sind eher ein Geschenk als preiswert!)

Für mich war das Endergebnis wie sicherlich für die meisten Gäste äußerst knapp. Österreich? Oder doch Deutschland? Das hatten unsere beiden Sommeliers natürlich auch so beabsichtigt und geschickt eingefädelt. Während bei den ersten beiden “Schlachten” noch Österreich für mich vorne lag, waren die Roten und der Süsswein ganz klar am Ende deutsche Domäne. Naja, ganz klar ist schön übertrieben. Eher hauchdünn. Alles Gegenspieler auf super hohem Niveau, jeder Wein war ein Genuß und wir hoffen auf baldige Wiederholung des Weinbattles, das darf ruhig 2x im Jahr stattfinden, wenn es nach uns geht.
Klar, dass ich nach dem Battle erstmal wieder ein paar Weine shoppen gehen mußte. Viel im Lager hab ich nicht, weil mir ein Weinkeller im Hause fehlt. Keller hab ich, aber dummerweise gibt unsere Fernwärmeheizung soviel freie Restwärme ab, dass es im Keller einfach zu warm für viele Tropfen ist. Also muß ich leider tiefer ins Portmonnaie greifen und trinkfertige kaufen. Natürlich hab ich mich sofort für Bernhard Hubers göttlichen Bienenberg interessiert und ihn natürlich auch bekommen. Dazu hab ich mir direkt einen schwarzen Trüffel besorgt. Klarer Entschluss, bald gibt es Kalbs- oder Ochsenbäckchen bei uns zu Hause mit getrüffeltem Kartoffelpüree! Rezept und Bilder folgen natürlich. Bei der Weinauswahl werde ich jetzt noch eine Spur achtsamer vorgehen, dazu eine kleine Geschichte, die uns heute sehr erheitert hat:
Wir hatten vor etwa zwei Wochen erstmalig Ochsenschwanz im Bräter. Zu dieser Leckerei hatte unsere Freundin Marta einen echten italienischen Klassiker mitgebracht: 2006er Bricco del Uccellone von Giacomo Bologna Braida. Das Etikett erkennt jeder sofort wieder, wer es einmal gesehen hat. Das sieht man immer wieder und das steht für eine besondere Qualität. Einer der wenigen Barbera-Weine aus Italien, der ein schöner Begleiter für kräftige Aromatik ist, darunter habe ich den fest abgespeichert. Wir haben ihn auch dann zum Ochsenschwanz mit Freude gesüffelt! Marta hatte sich klugerweise von einer Freundin zum Geburtstag diesen Tropfen schon in 2007 schenken lassen. Und jedes Jahr darauf! Und auch noch, dass ist das eigentlich Kluge, dann verwahrt!. Damals kostete er vermutlich so um die 25-35 €. Gut angelegtes Geld, kein Schnäppchen, aber der Wein ist es wert. Jedes Jahr, sagte sie, bringt Ihre Freundin ihr nun einen Wein zum Geburtstag mit und sie wünsche sich immer Diesen! Erst heute, zwei Wochen nachdem wir die Flasche mit vier Leuten geleert hatten, scanne ich die Flasche mit der Vivino App ein. Ab und zu geben ein paar Weinfreunde da launige Beurteilungen ab. Man möchte dann wissen, ob die Mehrheit ihn eher bei 4 Sterne oder gar darüber einordnen möchte. Also rufe ich mir mit dem iPhone prompt die Bewertung auf.
Mit folgendem, unglaublichen Ergebnis:
621,84€!
Mir fiel die Kinnlade runter, das konnte ja nicht wahr sein! Sechshunderteinundzwanzigkommavierundachtzig? Einen Moment lang dachte ich an die Chateau Lafite-Szene aus dem ersten Otto-Film. Dort lag Otto Waalkes samt eines alten Mannes (Johannes Heesters) auf dem Rinnstein und kippten die Flasche einfach leer – ebenfalls ohne zu wissen, wie teuer der Tropfen war!
Wir hatten also einen Wein in der ganz hohen Preiskategorie getrunken und wußten es nicht mal! Er war lecker, sicher, ein ganz feiner Abgang und wirklich edel. Aber wußten wir das zu würdigen?
Darüber hinaus schlossen sich rationalere Fragen an: War er mehr als 600 € wert? Da dachte ich sofort nein, das kann doch nicht wirklich soviel besser sein als ein Großes Gewächs wie bspw. der 2006er Bienenberg Spätburgunder von Bernhard Huber für ca. 42 €! Oder jüngst der BIN 389 von Penfolds für ca 50,–€. Alles ganz tolle, außerordentliche Weine für besondere Gelegenheiten. Doch mehr als das Zehnfache für den Barbera!?!
Nach einer halben Stunde und erregter Diskussion mit meiner Frau kam ich auf die Idee, dass erstmal gegen zu checken. Vivino, Ihr Penner! Vermutlich war der Preis in den USA verlinkt mit einer verrückten Ebay-Auktion. Siehe da, der 2006er ist hier noch zu haben. Und zwar im Kölner Weinkeller und anderswo für ca. 55,-€. Fünfundfünfzig. Nicht fünfhundertfünzig oder so! Große Ernüchterung! Ein Datenbankfehler in der Vivino-App. Erleichtertes Seufzen, den Barbera hätten wir so einfach getrunken? Hätten wir es überhaupt getan, wenn wir es gewußt hätten? Gut, für viele Menschen ist eine Flasche Wein für 55,-€ auch unsäglich teuer, aber die eigentliche Frage dahinter ist mal wieder diejenige, welchen Sprung man überhaupt noch von einem Wein der 94-96 Punkte Kategorie machen kann und was das dann im Verhältnis kostet? Ein Stückweit war ich glücklich, auch wenn wir ihn für sechshundert € getrunken hätten. Wein ist doch zum Trinken da! Und zum Geldverdienen…. denn folgendes Ergebnis kam noch am Tag des Wein-Battles auf den Ticker:
Deutscher Wein auf der VDP-Auktion
Am Freitag war nämlich zeitgleich die berühmte VDP-Versteigerung in Trier, ein nicht unwichtiges Datum für die deutsche Weinwelt. Und er endete mit einem Rekord: Für einen bislang unbekannten, nicht verkauften Wein, nämlich die Trockenbeerenauslese von Egon-Müller Scharzhof wurden doch tatsächlich 12.000,-€ bezahlt. Netto natürlich! Davon konnten sage und schreibe 22 Flaschen verkauft werden im normalen Gebinde, 36 Flaschen davon im 0,375l Gebinde. Was nach Prahlerei klingt, hat doch eine hohe Bedeutung für die Weinwelt. Es heißt schlichtweg nichts anderes, als das deutsche Spitzenweine wieder in der absoluten Topkategorie angekommen sind. Und zwar weltweit. Auch wenn man das jetzt auf jeden deutschen Winzer übertragen kann, das Gros sumpft sicher eher im unteren Mittelmaß bei Erzeugerpreisen unter 4,- € rum, trotzdem weiß man, dass bestimmte Reben wie natürlich insbesondere der Riesling in bestimmten Lagen zu Ihrer absoluten Reife gelangen können.
Wie die Trockenbeerenauslese von 2003 denn nun schmeckt? Ich habe keine Ahnung, so ein Preis lässt es natürlich nicht zu, dass man ihn mal irgendwo verkosten kann. Stand heute ist jedenfalls, mir wäre es das nicht wert. Denn jeder geübte Weintrinker weiß, dass dieses Vergnügen zwar fast schon orgiastisch gut sein kann, aber es wird nicht besonders lange dauern. Trotzdem ist es super wichtig für die Weinwelt und die Esskultur, dass es so Enthusiasten gibt, die einfach das Extrem suchen: denn perfekten Wein, koste er was er wolle. Letztlich sind Sie für alle in der Welt der Erzeuger der Maßstab und nur wenn man weiß, wo ganz oben ist, kann man auch einfache Weine für weniger Geld gut machen. Sprich, die absolute Spitze hilft, die Weinkultur in Gänze zu steigern. Da darf man dankbar sein, dass es diese Extreme gibt. Und so extrem wie manchmal Reichtum im Kapitalismus verteilt ist, sind leider auch die Preise manchmal exorbitant hoch. Bleibt dem Wein zu wünschen, dass Ihn nicht irgend ein Prahlhans kauft, der sein Geschmackserlebnis weder erklären kann noch versteht a la: “Schmeckt gut, das Zeug”. Das wäre dann das Altbekannte “Perlen vor die Säue” werfen…
Heidi hat das alles übrigens gelinde gesagt gar nicht interessiert. Sie hatte Besuch von Kindermädchen Rebecca und war bestens versorgt, als Ihre beschwipsten Eltern wieder zu Hause eintrafen.
* Der Ausdruck gemischter Satz gebührt der Erklärung:
Gemischter Satz ist die Bezeichnung für Wein, der sich aus unterschiedlichen Rebsorten aus einem Weingarten zusammensetzt. Im Gegensatz zur Cuvée werden hier mehrere Rebsorten zusammen angebaut und nach der gemeinsamen Lese auch gemeinsam zu Traubenmost gekeltert und vergoren. Durch die unterschiedlichen Reifegrade und den unterschiedlichen Säuregrad der Rebsorten wollte man ursprünglich das Risiko minimieren und eine gleichbleibende Weinqualität sichern. Erwünschter Nebeneffekt ist eine deutlich erhöhte Vielschichtigkeit des Endproduktes. Heute hat sich der Gemischte Satz vor allem in der österreichischen Weinbauregion Wien und in der Steiermark (dort unter der Bezeichnung Mischsatz) gehalten und gilt als Spezialität, die man nur aus Österreich kommend so nennen darf. Das ist übrigens eine sehr alte Anbaumethode und man kann sich ausmalen, dass sie auch in schwierigen Jahren für eine Rebsorte immer noch Ergebnisse liefert. Auch Schädlinge haben es schwerer als in Monokulturen wie den Reben vom reinem Veltliner oder sonstigen Rebsorten, die sonst keine fremden Nachbarn haben. Der Geschmack ist genauso aussergewöhnlich, weil noch mal anders als im Cuvee und ja trotzdem vom gleichen Terroir!
** Smaragd: Ist die höchste Qualitätsstufe in Österreich ähnlich dem deutschen großen Gewächs vom VDP. Die Qualitätsstufe darunter nennt sich übrigens Federspiel (und ist auch noch ein Zeichen für hervorragenden Wein)
